Job Description:

VP of Human Resources purpose is to provide senior- level HR leadership and guidance to the credit union’s HR operations. Oversees the development and implementation of human resources functions including recruitment, DEI, legal compliance, benefits, employee relations, salary administration, training and performance management. This role serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, under the direction of the CEO.

MAJOR DUTY AREAS

Oversees benefits administration, including health, life, disability, 401(k), and pension. Continuously monitor for new/enhanced options, research and make suggestion for enhancements. Serve as plan administrator for certain benefit programs.

Oversees the payroll function, to include policy development, vendor management, and employee documentation within the system.

Manages bi-annual salary survey research to keep credit union compensation in alignment with external competitors. Maintains and monitors the performance review system.

Provides leadership in external recruitment and internal staffing. Works with HR Specialist to recruit, interview, and recommend qualified candidates who can best contribute to the success and growth of the credit union.

Partners with external recruiting firms to fill temporary and higher-level positions as required. Manages and reviews vendors utilized for this function.

Oversees the New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new employees. Oversees personnel documentation related to new hires, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and separations.

Provides leadership and guidance to Human Resources team, to include HR Specialist and Training in order to create and provide great member service. Conduct effective meetings to ensure employees are well informed of department policies and priorities.

Serves on the Safety Committee to ensure compliance with safety, emergency, and crisis policies. Oversees policy development, drills, and safety trainings.

Oversees the Wellness Committee and the Wellness Benefit for all employees.

Maintain up-to-date and thorough knowledge of federal and state employment law where employees are located. Provides coaching and guidance to leaders on corrective and disciplinary action and assists in the development of disciplinary action. Conducts employee relations counseling and confidential investigations as needed.

Updates employment policies and the employee handbook as necessary for consistent compliance with employment law. Conducts job analyses to establish the specific requirements of individual jobs within each department for the creation and oversight of job descriptions. Actively participates in the Society for Human Resources Management.

Lead, manage and/or provide input for all HR initiatives, strategic and tactical, including process management in the areas of: Staffing, Employee Performance, Talent Management, Compensation, HR Administration, Employee Relations, and Compliance in support of the overall Credit Union objectives.

Oversees annual compliance training, learning management system and training coordination, to include online and classroom training. Manages and reviews vendors utilized for this function. Ensures timely completion of compliance training.

Assists in the planning of organization events to include annual staff meeting and summer event.

 Promotes diversity in all Credit Union endeavors, understanding that diversity of thought and perspectives as well as diversity of culture and human identity are essential elements of diversity. Participates on the Diversity Committee.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in human resources management.
  • Recognized SHRM credential, to include PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Previous experience in a credit union or financial institution environment in the human resources field preferred.
  • Must pass background and credit check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Skilled in delivering constructive feedback and experience in dealing with performance improvement plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite products.
  • Knowledge of human resources principles, policies, and practices to include employment law.
  • Knowledge of health benefits administration and recruiting practices.
  • Knowledge of recruiting practices.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, effectively delegate and manage critical deadlines.
  • Able to demonstrate a positive attitude, being respectful and leading by example.
  • Experience using HRIS management system, Paylocity preferred.
