Credit union members and advocates are invited to join in a “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” rally at The Credit Union House in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 2—even if they can’t actually make it to the nation’s capital. The event will stream live on the Internet at www.DontTaxMyCreditUnion.org.
Spokane members delivered an over-the-top response to an invitation to write love letters about their credit unions. Over 7,000 people embraced the idea, so Spokane credit union leaders will share the love with Congress in a series of meetings beginning this week.
In the first two weeks of a national call to action to protect credit unions’ tax status, more than 5,500 grassroots contacts were made with Congress by Northwest advocates.
Thousands of American credit union advocates rallied around a “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” call to action Wednesday, dialing in or logging onto a webinar hosted by the Credit Union National Association. CUNA called on credit unions to engage millions of members to contact Congress immediately.
Within just a few hours of receiving a call to action from Rivermark President/CEO Scott Burgess, thousands of Rivermark members responded, signing the NWCUA’s online petition opposing the bank lobby’s attack on credit unions’ tax structure.
