Just in time for the next stage in the interchange regulatory process, the Association has hired Lynn Heider as the new AVP of Communications to oversee the department and ensure the credit union message gets out to the press and the public.
Within one week of the conclusion of the GAC, Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) introduced legislation (the
Small Business Lending Enhancement Act, S509) increasing the authority of credit unions to make business
loans to their members. By the end of that week, 15 senators from both sides of the political aisle, had signed on as cosponsors.
With credit unions and banks aligned in their efforts to convince regulators and lawmakers to delay implementation of restrictions
on debit card interchange fees, the Federal Reserve Board has stated that any attempt to amend or delay the controversial rule is out of its hands and must start with Congress.
