Job Description:

The Software Development Manager is responsible for driving the expansion of the Credit Unions applications and services to provide enhanced member and staff user experience. This role includes leadership responsibilities, managing our high performing software development team while also conducting high-level development work. Act as the technical lead for software development, providing mentorship and review of code produced to assure quality work is implemented and in accordance with architecture. Collaborates with cross-functional teams within the organization as well as vendors, to ensure solutions provided are in alignment with the organization priorities and policies. Create and support a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and engagement.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage a team of developers/vendors to schedule and meet timelines for development tasks and projects. Prioritize the development and enhancement requests for all internally developed or supported applications.
  • Facilitate the creation of innovative programming strategies to accomplish organizational objectives. With a platform mindset, ensure the design and implementation results in a reusable software asset.
  • Leverage current programming languages, APIs and other related technologies to develop, enhance existing programming, and perform testing and debugging of applications.
  • Champions the enhancement of systems to increase automation and improve visibility into system performance and usage. Oversee ongoing maintenance of programming solutions. Address quality defects in a timely manner
  • Participate in assigned organizational projects by organizing, researching, developing, and documenting activities for successful implementation. Use in-depth knowledge and expertise, with independent judgment, to research and document needs, operational procedures/requirements and system guidelines related to assigned organizational projects.
  • Partner with Core Applications Management and CTO to execute on iQs digital strategy to simplify banking for staff and members.
  • Manage and maintain the Programming queues in the IS Request System. Assign IS Requests to the appropriate staff and monitor these requests to ensure they are followed up on in a timely manner. Coordinate the evaluation of requests for programming and system enhancements and facilitate the development of such programs.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of documentation regarding the purpose and functionality of new or modified processes and software. Maintain regular updates to projects and other appropriate documentation, such as design specification notes, progress/milestones and status of requests/enhancements.
  • Write, manage, and maintain Software Development Lifecycle documents and help ensure adherence to outlined process during development. Ensure software development staff utilize full lifecycle software architecture design that enable change, growth, and flexibility while fitting the needs of the credit union.
  • Hire, coach, evaluate, and take appropriate corrective action with department staff. Ensure employees are fully trained and cross-trained. Consistently communicate and coach team members with positive and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding member information at all times. Analyze, plan and coordinate the production of records and reports to comply with government regulations.


  • Eight to ten years of similar or related experience. Three to five years of development management experience preferred.
  • Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).
  • Understanding of programming techniques acquired through formal study or on-the-job experience. ASP.NET, Vue.JS, HTML, JavaScript, C#, Web service protocols (such as REST and SOAP), Active Server Page (ASP), SQL Server, PowerOn, SymXchange and other application developmental tools are preferred.
