Role Summary:

The SBA Sales Manager reports to the SBA Lending Manager/Team Leader. Originates loans and offers products and services to business and professional clientele. Establishes, develops, and retains customer relationships through referrals and business development. Responsible for development and maintenance of a loan portfolio and providing high quality, value-added client service. The SBA Sales Manager will be responsible for the deposit growth through making referrals to Treasury Management Officers. The sale manager will be responsible to sourcing and closing SBA specific lending opportunities. These opportunities may be within any government guaranteed lending product line such as Express, USDA, SBA 504, but primarily through offering of the SBA 7(a) loan program. This position will be a resource to the commercial team in each region to field SBA specific referrals. Sales and support include the development of new treasury management relationships, enhancing existing business relationships by involving the commercial loan officers, and branch team members, developing new business deposit relationships, cross selling retail products and services, and providing excellent member service. The SBA Sales Manager will be responsible to collaborate with the SBA Lending Manager Team Leader to train and coach the Commercial Loan Servicing team members and to hire and train new SBA Relationship Managers. 

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Perform assigned duties in accordance with Gesa Credit Union and the SBA’s Mission, Vision and Core Values; and provide the members with timely, adaptable, and outstanding service in accordance with the credit union’s customer service standards
  2. Take time to understand applicant’s business/management.
  3. Provide applicant bank products and services that enhance business success.
  4. Accept credit applications, interview loan applicants.
  5. Review applications and credit histories.
  6. Review and analyze credit reports and financial information.
  7. Evaluate existing and projected company cash flow.
  8. Determine value of collateral, through review of appraisal, valuations, business financials, etc.
  9. Recommend approval or decline of credit applications within credit union and SBA Criteria.
  10. Maintain existing customer relationships; develop and expand new customer relationships.
  11. Prepare detailed, complete, loan approval presentations for new credit applications, extensions, modifications, and renewal requests.
  12. Monitor loans through periodic reviews and documentation in conjunction with SBA Portfolio Manager, SBA Underwriter, and/or as requested.
  13. Perform credit checks and site inspections as required under credit union and/or SBA guidelines.
  14. Review maturing loans, loan extensions, and construction draws.
  15. Collect past due accounts and/or support SBA Lending Manager/Portfolio Manager in the collection of accounts.
  16. Oversee loan documentation and processing including review and negotiation.
  17. Properly maintain credit files including file memos updating the status of the client relationship.
  18. Keep up to date on government guaranteed lending requirements.
  19. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with banking / credit union regulations.
  20. Provide exceptional, timely, and responsive customer service to both internal members/teams as well as external partnerships and members.
  21. Understanding of the SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), including origination, servicing and liquidation.
  22. Actively maintain business development plans and strategies to prospect new SBA business lending, deposit, and treasury management relationships.
  23. Serve as a liaison between branches and commercial loan officers to respond to referrals for new SBA business.
  24. Maintain knowledge of SBA lending programs to facilitate and service all SBA loan programs.

About You:

  1. Proven business development skills
  2. Thorough knowledge of credit services and other credit union services
  3. Detailed knowledge of lending policies and procedures
  4. Thorough knowledge of business cash flow
  5. Proficient computer skills with collaboration and productivity tools including Windows-based operating systems and office suites (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); spreadsheet applications to organize data used for sophisticated data analysis; internet; email; and bank software.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills
  7. Ability to understand small business relationships and provide options that will meet their needs.
  8. Ability to converse with business owners.
  9. Ability to achieve a high sales level in business development and cross sales.
  10. Ability to organize, prioritize and respond simultaneously to multiple tasks and requests.
  11. Ability to work well in and contribute to a cohesive team environment.
  12. Effectively communicate ideas and information, both verbal and written.
  13. Display and maintain courtesy, tact and diplomacy with current and potential vendors, peers and staff.

What You Will Need:

  1. Six years of commercial lending relationship management with an emphasis on SBA lending.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or general business preferred.
  3. Treasury Management training preferred but not required.
  4. Ability to interpret financial documents and credit analysis.
  5. Proficiency with standard office equipment and business software.
  6. General understanding of credit union and/or banking services and products.
  7. Ability to assist leadership in training of new department staff.
  8. Some travel is required to develop markets, attend credit union training, attend SBA specific training, and fulfill duties.
