The Release Manager is responsible for release planning, scheduling, coordination and systems deployment for OCCU services accessed through digital channels. This manager understands the systems’ functions and how releases will impact members and staff and establishes release content and scope with input from the Digital Channels Product Owner. They manage releases in both production and non-production environments for multiple systems with potentially overlapping schedules. They are responsible for ensuring all aspects of preparing for the release are complete, including development, testing, procedures and communication. In addition to adhering to all change and risk management procedures, this manager tracks, reports and manages post-release issues in a continuous release lifecycle. In this role, the ability to motivate, collaborate and communicate successfully with cross-functional teams is essential. The Release Manager works with both non-technical and highly technical release team members to create an environment where team members understand the release vision and have clearly defined expectations.

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinate Releases and Deployments:

  • Support and execute on the Digital Banking vision, strategy and roadmap consistent with department and credit union directives.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog of bugs and enhancements to facilitate release planning with the Digital Channels Product Owner.
  • Document and communicate objectives and scope for each release.
  • Identify resource needs, negotiate for resources and assemble teams.
  • Create release plans with clear requirements, responsibilities and expectations.
  • Build and manage a Digital Channels release schedule that coordinates with Enterprise change activities.
  • Lead the execution of the release plan by motivating the team, removing obstacles and managing issues.
  • Coordinate releases with service-provider Partners.
  • Review and align requirements documents, specifications and release notes with release plans.
  • Determine release readiness, ensuring all criteria have been met.
  • Create and maintain release-related artifacts, including roll out plans; implementation checklists; maintenance/outage notices; and courtesy reminders.
  • Anticipate and identify risks and issues that affect release scope, schedule, quality and member experience. Initiate communicate and track risk/issue mitigation.
  • Act as escalation point for immediate post release issues. Provide assistance with identifying, tracking and resolving deployment-related issues.
  • Understand technical features and envision the impact on members.
  • Understand, apply, promote and contribute to Agile delivery methodologies, standards and tools.
  • Provide status updates to management and stakeholders regarding issues and progress.
  • Coordinate and monitor deployments during, and outside of, business hours.

Teamwork and Communication:

  • Work closely with various business units, as well as technical implementation staff, to successfully plan and implement releases. Create an environment where team members understand the release vision and have clearly defined expectations.
  • Oversee and monitor communications with technical partners, supported lines of business and staff, as appropriate.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Conduct retrospectives for each release. Advocate for and incorporate improvements.
  • Routinely review and improve the Release process and ensure consistency with Release and Change Management policies.
  • Identify areas of improvement and recommend enhancements to the systems and services providing Digital Channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • Three to five years of experience deploying web and mobile software systems.
  • Three to five years of experience in release and/or project management.
  • One to three years of experience in Agile/SCRUM project management methodology.
  • Proven ability to lead teams.
  • Financial industry experience preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
