Job Description:

Our Underwriting department is searching for an enthusiastic and professional Loan Underwriter to join their team. As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will review and underwrite applications to maximize profit while also adhering to risk tolerances. Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years’ of recent loan underwriting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and the expert ability to balance both high volume and high quality. Here’s what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:

Job Duties:

  • Underwrite loan applications within credit union guidelines and evaluate loans to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss
  • Review and verify accuracy of collateral details, employment profile, credit strength and all other pertinent loan documentation and information
  • Recognize, structure, present and approve additional loan opportunities to maximize member benefits
  • Serve as a resource to employees on underwriting questions
  • Provide adverse actions according to proper regulatory guidelines

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ previous loan underwriting experience within the financial industry required
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures for underwriting loans
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to offer viable and creative loan alternatives while staying within credit union risk tolerance
  • Ability to balance productivity and speed to meet service levels with quality underwriting to protect the credit union from undue risk
  • Ability to verify accuracy of supporting employment, down payment, collateral and financial documents
  • Current knowledge of investor and industry standard underwriting guidelines and procedures
  • Familiar with standard practices for reviewing and analyzing self-employment and rental income documentation
