Job Description:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Reviews status of delinquent accounts and initiates appropriate collection action. Prepares written correspondence on delinquent accounts and notifies all responsible signers of the delinquency.
  2. Initiates contact with members by phone or in writing to make payment arrangements to bring accounts current.
  3. Conducts skip tracing and performs credit investigations as necessary.
  4. Discusses all aspects of voluntary repossession with members. Provides all options necessary for members to make the appropriate decision.
  5. Crosssells all Credit Union products and services. Responds to member requests, problems and complaints and/or directs them to the appropriate person or team for specific information and assistance.
  6. Provides overrides on collection accounts prudently and judiciously.
  7. Acts as system administrator for collection tracking system. Works with vendor to complete necessary and scheduled updates. Facilitates communication to the Collections Team regarding any system changes. Ensures that system is up-to-date and providing expected value to the team and Credit Union.
  8. Seeks ways to streamline work processes and continuously improve the Credit Union.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelors degree in business administration or related field preferred. Three years of diverse collections work experience required.

Requirements Skills, Job Knowledge & Abilities

  1. Competency of bankruptcy laws and procedures.
  2. Thorough knowledge of collection laws and procedures, along with interviewing skills and techniques to deal with members and their delinquent accounts.
  3. Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements as they pertain to the collection of delinquent loans (procedures, documenta­tion requirements and record keeping).
  4. Ability to manage a high level of confidentiality and to exercise independent judgment and analysis.
  5. Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows and collection tracking system and their uses within the team. Ability to quickly gain thorough knowledge of Credit Union operating system and its use within the team.
  7. Ability to skip trace and perform credit investigations.
  8. Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Credit Union products and services. Prior experience with financial institution products and services helpful.
