Job Description:


  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Consumer Lending Department to include workflow and staff productivity, ensuring employees deliver exceptional service to internal and external members.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership, teambuilding and goal setting skills, promoting cooperation among employees and other departments.
  • Develops a team of motivated, results-oriented individuals. Encourages employee career development and holds regular coaching/development discussions.
  • Develops effective loan origination processes and procedures. Works closely with retail partners to ensure the effectiveness of the loan origination processes.
  • Develops and maintains consumer lending underwriting guidelines and procedures, coordinating with the lending management.
  • Manages the credit union’s consumer loan origination system and loan documentation.  Continually leverages technology to gain efficiency and automate work whenever possible.
  • Partners with key stakeholders in new product development.  Responsible for loan product set up and maintenance in lending origination software and core systems.
  • Acts as senior loan officer for the credit union.  Approves and declines loans within approved limits and policy restrictions.
  • Underwrites and makes decisions on problem or complex loans and acts on requests for policy exceptions within approved authority.
  • Ensures accurate loan documentation and the perfection of the credit union’s security interests.
  • Develops and maintains indirect lending relationships with auto, RV and boat dealers. Ensures timely processing and funding for completed loan packages.
  • Leads dealer management efforts; resolves problems proactively and monitors concentration and performance of loans at dealership level. Upholds Advantis reputation as an indirect lender.
  • Establishes quality control standards that ensure sound lending practices and strong operational guidelines are in place an enhanced as needed.
  • Leads production for Consumer Lending and works closely with sales and marketing leaders to achieve established goals.
  • Oversees the audit of consumer loans for proper documentation and compliance. Assists the lending management in responding to audit findings and implementing changes.
  • Makes recommendations for new products and lending services. Develops guidelines for product development, review, and implementation.
  • Stays abreast of industry changes. Recognizes risks and opportunities in consumer loan programs.  Recommends strategies and goals for the pricing of retail loan products.
  • Maintains the loan pricing matrix.
  • Acts as a resource to answer difficult questions and to solve complex problems for members and staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration of finance required.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in all facets of consumer lending, including indirect dealer loans.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with  consumer credit and underwriting, and managing loan origination systems including automated decisioning.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing teams with experience managing other leaders preferred.
  • Proven history of growing a sound consumer loan portfolio.
  • Extensive knowledge of all credit products, underwriting, lending policies and procedures, loan origination systems, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of all functions within the consumer lending department, all applicable state and federal regulations, and the credit union’s lending policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain high standards in areas of information security, accuracy, thoroughness, completeness and neatness of documentation, system input, correspondence, system upgrades and system testing.
  • Thorough knowledge of indirect lending.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills with an ability to develop employees. Capacity to work well with others and to resolve issues effectively.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence and lead change.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the credit union’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead, train and motivate assigned staff, maintain an efficient schedule of workflow, create an atmosphere that promotes teamwork, collaboration and initiative.
  • Ability to analyze work processes and to make recommendations for process improvement.
  • Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • A high level of problem solving skills required to coordinate the department’s functions in the event of security changes, unexpected events and new product or service development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, staff and vendors.  Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent group presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to deal with unexpected events, and occasionally attend meetings and events that may occur outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of other computer programs within the Credit Union.
  • Ability to act independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with members, staff and vendors.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
