The Accounting Specialist performs a variety of duties assigned by the CEO to assist in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting functions. These functions include daily general ledger balancing, accounts payable, and other duties as assigned. An ideal candidate does not need to know everything about financial institution accounting, but must be willing to earnestly apply their knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to learn the specifics of credit union accounting.
Associates degree or equivalent in accounting or similar field, or two to four years of experience in the accounting field. Knowledge and demonstrated application of GAAP. Demonstrated attention to detail and documentation. The ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including both verbal and written communication. The ability to do multiple tasks and projects at the same time, and the flexibility to make immediate and unscheduled task changes. An understanding of the absolute necessity of complete accuracy in accounting functions. Ability to learn and work comfortably with web-based programs, software, and other information technologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word programs preferred. Experience with Symitar preferred. Must be bondable.
