The Accounting Manager is responsible for daily maintenance of the General Ledger and related financial reporting. They will play a significant role in producing efficient, timely, and accurate financial reports to management and other authorized users of the Credit Unions financial statements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: To be successful, the ideal candidate will be a problem-solving, focused individual who possesses extraordinary professionalism, organization, research, analytical, and communication skills. They will be a self-starter who is adept at identifying opportunities for increased efficiencies in the Accounting Department, while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
Financial Reporting, Maintenance of Procedures:
Assists with preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements and dashboards.
Maintains financial reporting systems, tax reporting, and reconciliations for two Credit Union Service Organization subsidiaries.
Assists with preparation of the Credit Union’s quarterly Call Report Form 5300.
Participates in critical month-end and year-end closing process, including preparing entries, analyzing activity for reasonableness, resolving problems and coordinating with other departments while remaining sensitive to key deadlines.
Aides in gathering data for the Credit Union’s annual Form 990 and other tax filings.
Writes and maintains account procedures pertaining to areas of responsibility.
General Ledger Maintenance & Reconciliation:
Records daily business transactions.
Reconciles complex general ledger accounts and sub ledger applications.Researches reconciling items, communicating with internal departments and external organizations, as needed.
Manages internal accounting for investment portfolio, including tracking of interest receipts, portfolio maturity, and closure of investment files. Drafts correspondence with investment intuitions as needed.
Provides information to upper management to assist with daily cash management.
Manages prepaid expense and fixed asset sub ledgers and general ledger accounts and assists with capital budget planning.
Prepares timely and accurate internal, regulatory and management reports and forecasts as needed.
Accounts Payable Processing:
Responsible for the full Accounts Payable (AP) cycle.
Processes and records activity for corporate credit cards.
Performs periodic audits of vendor files, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Follow up on outdated or missing documentation as needed.
Prepares Forms 1099-MISC annually.
Provide reports on vendor activity, as requested.
Other duties, as assigned: Staff is expected to perform various tasks, projects and administrative duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to assign or change duties and tasks to this position at their discretion.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent work or educational experience required.
Three to five years of experience in an accounting role required.
Strong understanding of applicable Federal, State, and other regulations, including but not limited to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), National Credit Union Association, and Revised Code of Washington regulations as applicable to Credit Unions in the State of Washington.
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and basic web browser operation.
Experience with financial institution core system software preferred.
Proficient verbal and written skills to effectively communicate.
Excellent analytical and project management skills.
Accounting certifications are a plus (CPA, CMA, CFA).
