Program Overview

The Northwest Credit Union Association is pleased to bring you CU Learning TRAXX – a new educational program designed for all credit union professionals, from CEOs to branch managers, to staff in all department disciplines. There’s even a special track for board members!

This future-focused programming features seven learning tracks with a minimum of six 60- to 90-minute sessions in each track! That means there will be more than 42 sessions to choose fromand we’ll be adding just-in-time sessions to reflect important and emerging topics.  

CU Learning TRAXX’s thought-provoking sessions will be delivered through a cutting-edge, feature-rich digital platform.  

Expert speakers and industry leaders will lead thought-provoking sessions, and participants will have the opportunity to connect with peers, discuss current events, and collaborate on ways to advance the Credit Union Movement. Tracks are specially designed with specific audiences in mind, but credit union professionals of every level and discipline will find them valuable.  

A variety of registration options are available, providing you the flexibility to customize an educational program that is just right for you and your credit union team. You can register for single or multiple sessions across any of the seven tracks, package your professional development into 5-, 10-, or 25- session bundles, or register for an entire track to stay focused. And with an AllAccess Pass, every single person on your staff can register for every single session we offer!

Point-Counter Point Part 2
December 9, 2020 
During this track’s first session, we highlighted three very different economic outlooks around how the economy would recover in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. John Trull, NWCUA VP of Regulatory Advocacy, moderates a follow-up discussion, bringing in different economic perspectives based on the insights and data available in December. A lot has already changed since August, and the economic outlook is quickly evolving. Use this critical learning to help plan for a variety of future economic scenarios. 

 After this session participants will:   

    • Understand the current economic landscape. 
    • Understand what the future economic landscape may look like using three economic forecasting perspectives. 
    • Be able to utilize the information shared as a basis for future income projections on investments, loans, and fees.

    Fire, Flood, and Drought in the Northwest: The Risks of Climate Change to Financial Services
    November 2, 2020
    The ominous warnings around climate change are everywhere. We hear it in daily news reports and scientists release frequent findings on what our global society faces if changes aren’t made now. In this session, credit unions will learn firsthand about the potential risks of climate change to financial services from Hans HelbekkmoHelbekkmo has worked extensively in the field of enterprise risk management and is a partner in the San Francisco office of McKinsey & Co. 

In this session participants will: 

    • Learn about how climate change is creating risks in the banking industry, as well as opportunities to invest in climate mitigation and adaptation
    • Hear how banks are assessing the impact of climate change in their portfolios, driven both by regulatory pressure and business needs
    • More broadly, learn how banks are setting themselves up to manage climate risks within a comprehensive risk management framework including risk processes (identification, measurement, monitoring and management), organization, governance and enablers like data and technology

Mitigating and taking risk are central to successful credit union operations. In times of crisis, how do you realign operations to identify and mitigate emerging risks, while, at the same time, take risks such as employing the credit union’s capital to meet the needs of struggling members and communities? Learn how enterprise risk management can preserve and protect the credit union’s value AND help members at the same time.

    •  Learn about the role of risk appetite in managing risk and creating member value 
    • Identify the value of net worth not only as a cushion against losses, but also as a driver of member value

    Understanding Mergers and the Board’s Role

    December 9, 2020  
    In this session, we examine how credit unions play an essential part in members’ lives and the board member’s role in credit union mergers. Board members commit countless hours of time and effort to ensure their credit union continues to provide value and benefit. Yet, nearly every day, there is a credit union merger in the United States, with that trend holding steady for nearly a decade. Mergers can be a viable way for credit unions to retain relevance and sustainability while still maintaining focus on the member and remaining true to the credit union’s mission.

The Northwest Credit Union Foundation is providing professional development scholarships for credit union professionals interested in attending CU Learning TRAXX sessions. If credit unions need financial support to purchase an All Access Pass or Session Bundles, CEOs can apply for their entire 2020 scholarship award to go toward CU Learning TRAXX.
