Program Overview

The Northwest Credit Union Association is pleased to bring you CU Learning TRAXX – a new educational program designed for all credit union professionals, from CEOs to branch managers, to staff in all department disciplines. There’s even a special track for board members!

This future-focused programming features seven learning tracks with a minimum of six 60- to 90-minute sessions in each track! That means there will be more than 42 sessions to choose fromand we’ll be adding just-in-time sessions to reflect important and emerging topics.  

CU Learning TRAXX’s thought-provoking sessions will be delivered through a cutting-edge, feature-rich digital platform.  

Expert speakers and industry leaders will lead thought-provoking sessions, and participants will have the opportunity to connect with peers, discuss current events, and collaborate on ways to advance the Credit Union Movement. Tracks are specially designed with specific audiences in mind, but credit union professionals of every level and discipline will find them valuable.  

A variety of registration options are available, providing you the flexibility to customize an educational program that is just right for you and your credit union team. You can register for single or multiple sessions across any of the seven tracks, package your professional development into 5-, 10-, or 25- session bundles, or register for an entire track to stay focused. And with an AllAccess Pass, every single person on your staff can register for every single session we offer!

  • Financial Strategy Series
    Point-Counter Point – August 5, 2020
     
    John Trull, NWCUA VP of Regulatory Advocacy, moderates this essential discussion. Gain valuable perspectives and use this critical learning to help plan for a variety of future economic scenarios. This session is a two-part series, with the first discussion taking place in August. In December, we’ll re-examine the current economy, hearing from our original panel on what they know now and an what they expect to come. 

After this session participants will:   

— Understand the current economic landscape.
— Understand what the future economic landscape may look like using three economic forecasting perspectives.
— Be able to utilize the information shared as a basis for future income projections on investments, loans, and fees.

Previous work experience and background knowledge is recommended.  

Participants must attend the event on the session day, stay for the duration of the session, and engage in event surveys and event polls to qualify.

— Be able to identify the main challenges in obtaining diversity on boards.
— Understand how to overcome those challenges.
— Utilize recruiting skills to help find qualified and diverse candidates.

Credit Union Finance for Board Members – August 26, 2020 
Boards members come from a variety of backgrounds, but not all come to the table with in-depth accounting and financial knowledge. This session will provide attendees with an overview of the foundational financial concepts important for evaluating the fiscal impact of strategic decisions. From balance sheets to key ratios, explore the most important metrics used by credit union leaders to guide and provide oversight to their credit unions. 

After this session Participants will:   

— Gain an understanding of which financial ratios every credit union should have on their dashboard.
— Gain an understanding of what capital is, where it comes from, and how much a credit union may need.
— 
Learn how spread analysis is used to identify how a credit union is making its profit, whether it is improving or declining, and why.
— 
Be able to utilize this information to have a much better understanding of how their particular credit union is doing.

In this session participants will: 

— Gain an understanding of the emerging risk in cybersecurity as a result of the new work-from-home environment.
— Gain an understanding of the power of cybersecurity frameworks to address and mitigate threats.
— Learn about leveraging cybersecurity frameworks to monitor for and respond to future risks.

Field of Study – Information Technology – Technical 
Delivery Method: Group Live  Online due to COVID-19 
Previous work experience and background knowledge is recommended. 

Participants must attend the event on the session day, stay for the duration of the session, and engage in event surveys and event polls to qualify. 

This session will take a deep dive into how credit unions can use data to drive forward strategies to positively impact their members’ and communities’ financial health, as well as how the Credit Union Movement can collectively foster financial stability in our communities. This work has become even more important as members navigate the long-term economic impacts of COVID-19. 

After this session Participants will:   

— Gain an understanding of what metrics are critical to track in order to positively impact members’ and communities’ financial health.
— Gain an understanding of how to use member data to identify products and services best suited for your members’ needs.
— 
Learn how to more holistically approach member financial wellness and health.
