CUNA is closely watching developments at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau today as the leadership debate plays out…CUNA submitted comments to the NCUA on their Regulatory Reform agenda and the Senate Appropriations Committee released its draft spending package to fund agencies and government functions…CUNA also filed Reply Comments concerning its petition before the FCC seeking declaratory relief for credit unions from the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

Last week was a busy week here in Washington! CUNA filed a petition with the FCC to allow credit unions greater ability to communicate with members… CUNA announced intentions to file a lawsuit against Equifax… CUNA sent letters to the DOL, the NCUA, and CFPB… the NCUA announced it will close the stabilization fund… CUNA attended the SBA Office of Advocacy’s Small Business Roundtable… CUNA sent multiple letters to Capitol Hill… We’ll discuss all of this and more in this week’s Advocacy Update!
Last week, CUNA joined FS-ISAC and CUNA Mutual to conduct a webinar on fraud loss mitigation following data breaches… CUNA continues to urge the Senate to act on the CRA for the CFPB’s Arbitration Rule… the Judge approved the settlement between Home Depot and financial intuitions in a lawsuit following the 2014 data breach… the CFPB released CUNA-supported changes to the ECOA… the NCUA released their monthly meeting’s agenda and have included the closing of the TCCUSF… We’ll discuss all of this and more in this week’s… CUNA Advocacy Update!
Last week was a great week for credit unions and their advocacy efforts! CUNA, the Leagues, and credit unions worked together to ensure passage of an important bipartisan amendment to keep the NCUA out of the appropriations process!
While the amendment battle was an “all hands on deck” situation, it was not the only issue CUNA was working on last week… CUNA urged Equifax to notify ALL consumers who have been breached (we will also be hosting a webinar this week!)… CUNA sent comments to the CFPB on Small Business Lending… CUNA joined ICBA and NAFCU in support of H.J. Res 111 to disapprove of the CFPB’s arbitration rule… CUNA and DCUC met with the DoD on the MLA… the CFPB published the Final HELOC Rule… We’ll discuss all of this and more in this week’s… CUNA Advocacy Update!
The House and Senate remain in recess and will return next week after Labor Day on September 5th. Last week, CUNA’s President/CEO responded to an op-ed by Director Cordray… CUNA needs credit unions to participate in SBA Roundtable event… a CUAC meeting has been set for September 7… the CFPB temporarily increases HMDA HELOC reporting threshold… and the FFIEC Issued New HMDA Resubmission guidelines.
