About the Advocacy Training Program

Join your Association’s Advocacy team for a full day of in-depth advocacy training in a small-group setting. Register to attend at one of our three locations (Tigard, OR; SeaTac, WA; or Meridian, ID) for a chance to participate in an engaging and informative workshop where you’ll learn more about the Credit Union Difference and how to message it to elected officials. Hear from our Association’s lobbyists in the three state capitols, elected officials and legislative staff to learn the best ways to communicate your message. Program Overview

The Focus

During this one-day training, attendees will delve into what it means to be a credit union advocate and receive the tools and training needed to maximize their impact and create a personal and credit union specific engagement strategy. The Association’s advocacy team will lead discussions about the many ways attendees can engage in credit union advocacy and the best practices for doing so. Guest speakers will include legislators, legislative staff, and our Association’s lobbyists in each state. Each will provide valuable insight into the best ways to message the Credit Union Difference to different audiences, as well as demystify the ideas of lobbying and advocacy.

This program is intended for anyone who has an interest in honing their advocacy skills, whether you’re a branch manager or a CEO. If you’ve got a passion for advocacy – talking with elected officials and others about the Credit Union Movement – then this program is a great fit for you.

About the Trainers

Samantha Beeler, VP, Advocacy, NWCUA

Samantha Beeler is the Northwest Credit Union Association’s AVP, Advocacy, a role that allows her to work closely with elected officials in the Northwest, as well as credit unions to promote the credit union message and support the Association’s legislative and political agenda.

Beeler brings extensive grassroots advocacy experience to the Association after handling international outreach efforts for the aid organization The World Race in more than a dozen countries around the globe. Most recently, she worked as a business development and marketing coordinator at BakerHostetler LLP in Washington, D.C. At the law firm, she worked primarily with the government contracts practice.

Beeler attended Wheaton College in Illinois, where she studied Political Science and International Relations, with an emphasis in Mandarin. She also enjoys studying emergency management, and has completed several courses with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Management Institute.

Her role, she says, is to help spread that “People Helping People” message in Boise, Olympia, Salem and Washington, D.C.
