Providence Federal Credit Union Partners With California Labor Union
May 24, 2022
Providence Federal Credit Union, based in Milwaukie, Oregon, is pleased to announce that it’s expanding to serve health care professionals, home care workers, and childcare providers in California as the new banking partner for United Domestic Workers (UDW Labor Union), a nonprofit organization based in San Diego, California.
UDW provides advocacy and support to more than 74,000 members who work as healthcare professionals, homecare workers, and childcare providers in California.
“We look for natural partnerships — selecting a partner with the same core values as ours was of utmost importance. We found an organization that was fully committed to serving their members with the same care, attention, and heart-felt mission that we have served our membership for nearly 60 years, ” said Shirley Cate, PFCU President and CEO.
PFCU has worked with Providence St. Joseph Health for six decades, remaining dedicated to employees and their families in the healthcare industry.
“We cherish our history with Providence St. Joseph Health and are committed to continuing to deliver solid financials, innovative products, new technology, and outstanding service to our members, ” added Cate.
In fact, this partnership will provide PFCU members with the added convenience of enhanced products, member support services, and new product offerings to uphold their financial wellness in a rapidly changing world.
“We’re expanding because we know that serving more health care workers means we can provide even greater value for all our members,” Cate said. “Growing and strengthening our position will mean expanded products, broader service offerings, and a California branch presence for our PFCU family, adding to our 90,000 surcharge-free ATMs, low-interest rate loans, and free checking and savings accounts.”
UDW was founded by followers of Cesar Chavez in 1977 and is now a union representing thousands of deeply committed caregivers who have dedicated their lives to the health and safety of others. By taking care of the children and allowing seniors to remain in their homes with dignity and independence, home care and family childcare providers support our country’s entire economy.
But even though in-home caregivers across America save the government billions of dollars every year, they continue to be largely underserved and unbanked. That’s where PFCU comes in, delivering modern banking with affordable checking, financial planning tools, and lending programs to our essential workers at UDW.
PFCU and UDW are excited for their members to reap the rewards of this partnership.
“The PFCU partnership is a natural fit, ” says Editha Adams, UDW President and Caregiver. “Healthcare and advocacy share a lot in common with the spirit of credit unions — the primary philosophy of ‘people helping people.'”
