Credit Union Champion Jim Morrell Seated on CUNA Board of Directors

Northwest credit unions can continue to count on strong representation on the Credit Union National Association’s Board of Directors.

Jim Morrell, President and CEO of Peninsula Credit Union, was elected to the District 6, Class A position, which was previously served by Spokane Media CEO Debie Keesee. Morrell’s seat officially represents credit unions in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, American Samoa, Guam, Johnson Atoll, Midway Atoll, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palmyra Atoll, and Wake Atoll; however, the board works in unity to help all credit unions thrive.

“Daily our Peninsula Credit Union Team walks with our members on their financial journey. Participating on the CUNA Board helps to advocate and ensure financial cooperatives are able to provide financial well-being for all,” Morrell said. ”I consider it an honor to represent the interests of credit unions as a member of the CUNA Board.”

Morrell is a 30-year veteran of the Credit Union Movement who has won accolades for his impact, ranging from recognition by the Northwest Credit Union Association as the 2021 Summit Advocate, to certification in the U.S. and Africa as a Credit Union Development Educator. He has actively served on industry boards and committees in the areas of payments and governmental affairs and as Chair of the Credit Unions for Kids committee advising Seattle Children’s Hospital. His community service includes focusing on community development, arts, poverty solutions, and more.

“Jim will be a strong and effective voice for credit unions as a member of the CUNA Board,” said Troy Stang, NWCUA President and CEO. “For many years, his thought leadership has helped evolve credit union services to members and communities. He has a strong leadership team at Peninsula Credit Union and is well-positioned to commit his time and expertise to board service.”

Stang just completed nine years of service to the CUNA Board of Directors and was Chair in 2020.

CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle, said, “We’re pleased to have Jim join the CUNA Board of Directors and low forward to his valuable input as CUNA, leagues, and credit unions collaborate on ways to meet consumers’ financial needs.”

Morrell officially began his board service last week during CUNA GAC.
