Wauna Credit Union Opens New Branch

Wauna Credit Union (WCU) is opening the doors to a new, two-story commercial branch in Astoria, Oregon this month. The 16-office, roughly 8,826-square-foot building sits in the heart of Astoria at 595 Marine Drive.

While WCU, based in Clatskanie, Oregon, has been a staple of the financial services offered in the Clatsop County area since 1975, the original building — erected in the early 1900s — had simply been outgrown by the needs of the credit union and its members.

“The new Astoria Branch is a state-of-art building that includes today’s most up-to-date financial technology to better serve our member-owners,” said President and CEO, Robert Blumberg. “I’m impressed by its modern look, local décor, and the same great, welcoming, and hometown feel.”

With a 32-strong staff, the branch hosts over 6,800 of the credit union’s overall 24,873 members and is the second new build for WCU in as many years. WCU operation teams worked closely with local contractor teams, utilizing local materials and recourses including signage, landscaping, and general construction.

Many of the technological aspects were designed and implemented by WCU in partnership with DBSI Inc., a design-build firm based in Chandler, AZ, to better support the departments located there. The building houses the credit union’s call center, human resources, cash-intensive business, mortgage, and consumer lending teams.

WCU Chief Operations Officer, Debi Smiley, said, “I would like to thank the Astoria members for their loyalty and commitment. This continued support has provided WCU with the opportunity to reciprocate provide a new facility, new technology, improved security, and greater level of service.”

The credit union’s leadership team is planning two additional builds, scheduled to begin construction in Scappoose and in Seaside within the next few years.
