Four Northwest Credit Unions Receive Grants to Support Diversity and Financial Health

The National Credit Union Foundation last week announced the recipients of a $100,000 grant to support smaller credit unions seeking to understand the roles that culture, race, and ethnicity play in financial well-being.

Seven credit unions received the grant, including four from the Northwest:

  • Canopy Credit Union, Spokane
  • Central Willamette Credit Union, Albany, Oregon
  • Consolidated Community Credit Union, Portland
  • Wauna Credit Union, Clatskanie, Oregon

Credit unions composed of 10 or more employees with assets between $100 million and $600 million were eligible to apply for the grant.

The grant allocations provide each credit union with access to industry-leading programs, data analysis, and consultation provided by Attune and Coopera, two organizations leading the charge for multicultural inclusion and financial health.

Grantees will be able to use two of Coopera’s inclusion tools: the Ethnicity Segmentation Analysis to track membership demographics, and the Hispanic Opportunity Navigator, which assesses a credit union’s readiness to serve Latinx communities and provides a roadmap to success. In addition, the recipients can partner with Attune, part of the Financial Health Network, to measure employee and member financial health and receive data-driven insights to steer strategic planning and product development.

“Grants like these enable credit unions to take action for their members and create true change. Acting on inclusion is our mission,” said Victor Corro, CEO of Coopera.

Editor’s note: All NWCUA-member credit unions have access to state-specific Hispanic Opportunity Reports commissioned by Coopera, which are housed in the Association’s Marketing Resource Center. The comprehensive reports include information on Hispanic individuals in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, diving into population, race/ethnicity, nationality, nativity and citizenship status, language, age, and much more.
