Unitus Community CU Kicks Off Hispanic Heritage Month with Celebration
September 14, 2021
Unitus Community Credit Union is hosting a Hispanic Community Celebration to launch Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed nationally from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year.
The outdoor, family-friendly event will take place Sept. 17 at the Unitus Plaza in downtown Portland and will celebrate the Hispanx and Latinx generations who have enriched their communities through social, cultural, and economic contributions. The celebration will also honor Unitus’ new designation as a Juntos Avanzamos credit union.
Juntos Avanzamos credit unions are organizations that have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic and immigrant consumers. Unitus has worked hard to create more opportunities and equity in its communities, and it is honored to receive this designation.
“We are excited and honored to have been named a Juntos Avanzamos credit union,” said Steven Stapp, President and CEO of Unitus. “This symbolizes our commitment to the Hispanx and Latinx community we serve. We look forward to celebrating with our community and holding this event that will honor the contribution of the Hispanx and Latinx communities. We are fortunate to have this opportunity and look forward to sharing it with you.”
An important part of Unitus’ work is to support these groups through partnerships with organizations that are dedicated to creating stronger communities to live, work, and play in. Unitus is a proud partner with the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Milagro, Latino Network, El Programa Hispano, and the Consulate of Mexico in Portland. Focused on financial well-being, the credit union’s partnership with the Consulate allows Unitus to be a part of their Binational Financial Education week, and the collaboration with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce supports the Pathways to Scholarship program.
