YCUP PDX and Cascadia Chapter Raise $3,000 to Support LGBTQ+ Communities

In celebration of Pride Month this past June, the Cascadia Chapter of Credit Unions teamed up with the Young Professionals of Portland (YCUP PDX), to support the Q Center in Portland, which provides safe spaces, community building, and empowerment for the positive transformation of the LGBTQ+ communities and allies in the Pacific Northwest.

Over the course of the month, the two Micro-Community groups hosted a virtual fundraiser, each pledging to match up to $500. In total, they raised more than $3,000. After pledging to donate a percentage of net income from its Visa Platinum cards in June, Forrit Credit Union contributed $1,650 to the fundraiser.

Danny McGuire, Treasurer and Board Member of the Cascadia Chapter and Financial Analyst at Unitus Community Credit Union, said it was an excellent example of Micro-Communities collaborating toward a common goal.

“Cascadia and YCUP realize we can do more together for our communities,” he said. “Working as a team surpassed our expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with the support received in our efforts to raise funds for the Q Center!”

This isn’t the first time YCUP and Cascadia have joined forces to support the Northwest LGBTQ+ community. Last year, they pulled in over $6,000 for the Q Center during their PRIDE: Walk, Learn, Listen series, a virtual learning and networking event that championed diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“Q Center is a brilliant beacon of hope, health, and happiness, and we are so very elated to have partnered with our friends at the Cascadia Chapter to show off our true credit union colors in supporting LGBTQ+ communities,” said Michael Murdoch, President of YCUP PDX and Marketing Manager at Wauna Credit Union.
