Northwest Credit Unions Support Main Street on Small Business Saturday
Numerica Credit Union stashed 300 gift-card-filled wallets all over North Idaho, eastern Washington, Tri-Cities, and the Wenatchee Valley.
Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, consumers are looking to score some great deals on their holiday shopping this time of year. But now, more than ever, small businesses need support. On Small Business Saturday this past weekend, Northwest credit unions urged their members to “shop small.”
Numerica Credit Union, based in Spokane, got creative with its approach, dropping 300 wallets containing nearly $30,000 in gift cards for people to find. Each wallet contained four $25 gift cards purchased from local businesses in North Idaho, eastern Washington, Tri-Cities and the Wenatchee Valley, according to a press release.
Throughout the day, the credit union documented its various wallet drops on social media, letting members know where they might find a prize.
“Our first wallet drop of #NumericaSmallBizSaturday is happening!” a Facebook post said. “Show your support to local small businesses today and every day. Each wallet has four $25 gift cards, and they’re scattered in local business districts. We’ll be posting a new post every hour until 3 p.m.!”
Kim Pearman-Gillman, Numerica’s SVP of Corporate and Community Relations, said this investment will hopefully benefit small businesses and inspire more residents to shop local.
“Small, locally owned businesses are the heart of any strong community. After a uniquely challenging year, this is just one way to show some love back to them.”
