Northwest Credit Union Community Raises More Than $670,000 During CU4Kids Virtual Auction
Turning out in force for their charity of choice, credit unions raised their paddles high Thursday during Cheers & Chocolates.
Last Thursday, Northwest credit unions proved once again how committed they are to Credit Unions for Kids, the Movement’s beloved charity that helps millions of children receive life-saving medical care at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
Over the course of the evening, they raised more than $670,000, and the contributions are still coming in!
Many credit unions and business partners also sponsored the auction, and the eight hospitals receiving the critical funds express their sincere gratitude. These dollars will pay for cutting-edge, life-saving research; medical equipment; and charity care for countless children across the region.
The event kicked off with a lively wine and chocolate tasting hosted by expert vintner, Shae Frichette, of family-owned Frichette Winery in Benton, Washington, and master chocolatier, Jason Stack, of Boise-based artisan shop, The Chocolat Bar. Attendees took to the live stream chat box to share their favorite pairings and express their excitement for a fun night of bidding.
Credit unions then battled it out in friendly competition as they outbid each other on the popular electric cars; a variety of big-ticket items; including a VIP wine tour and a stay at the Stephanie Inn on the Oregon coast; and a special package for this year’s Miracle Child, Elle Fischer.
The electric cars alone raised $323,000 for the eight CMN hospitals in the region, and now young patients receiving care at those facilities will roll into their treatment rooms in style!
“Though this was a first-of-its-kind virtual auction, Northwest credit unions showed up, as they always do, to demonstrate their steadfast dedication to this cause,” said NWCUA Director of Programming Holly Miller. “It’s so inspiring to see credit unions rally around these eight hospitals year after year.”
During the auction, Elle shared her incredible life journey. Born with hemifacial microsomia, a condition that affects the development of the lower half of her face, she’s one of many children who rely on the care that CMN hospitals provide every day. But her condition doesn’t hold her back — in fact, it only makes her stronger.
Throughout the evening, attendees interacted in the chat box, egging each other on and celebrating every increasing bid. They also participated in trivia challenges for a chance to win luxurious gift certificates. Trudi Mayes from CapEd Credit Union won a $500 credit to the beautiful Skamania Lodge in Stephenson, Washington, and Alexandria Johnson from Sound Credit Union won $500 to The Coeur D’Alene Resort in Northern Idaho.
