Your CU4Kids Contributions Help Provide Life-Saving Care to Thousands of Children

A young patient at Spokane’s Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital receives a (socially distanced) visit from Spider-Man on Superhero Day this past August.

When you raise your paddles high in the air during a Credit Unions for Kids auction, you’re not just bidding on a luxurious getaway or treat-filled gift basket; you’re helping children all over the Northwest receive life-saving medical care.

Credit Unions for Kids, founded right here in the Northwest in 1986, focuses on raising dollars for 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the nation. CMN hospitals provide cutting edge, life-saving research and $3.4 billion in charity care for children every single year. For these children’s families, these funds are a lifeline — a ray of hope as they navigate long, difficult journeys.

The Northwest credit union family is passionate about its charity of choice. Below, hear from credit union leaders on what CU4Kids means to them.

During the Nov. 12 virtual auction, Cheers & Chocolates — Coming Together for CU4Kids, held from 5:30 to 7  p.m. PST (6:30 to 8 p.m. MST), your contributions will benefit eight CMN hospitals throughout the region.

Hear from each of the hospitals on how they’ll use these critical funds to help children and families in need:

St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, Boise

“Contributions from Cheers & Chocolates help fund St. Luke’s Children’s Pediatric Trauma services. These services are vital to our community. Idaho is one of seven states without Verified Pediatric Trauma — without these providers and services in our state, our kids would have to seek care over 350 miles away. We love that we have the opportunity to keep our kids close to home, and are so grateful for the support of our amazing credit union partners!”

Peace Health Sacred Heart Medical Center, Eugene, Oregon

“The support of the [Credit Union Movement] means so much to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center. Thanks to you, our NICU caregiver team continues to have access to all of the tools they need to save a baby’s life. Thanks to you, our Child Life Specialists don’t have to think twice about having the right materials to help reduce a child’s anxiety about an invasive medical procedure. And thanks to you, local families can hug their babies close and know they have access to the best care that their children might need, right here in our own community.”

Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, Medford, Oregon

“Philanthropic dollars from this auction will help support a multitude of hospital elements. This auction could support certification courses for our nurses on how they can handle children that have experienced abuse, to sleep bassinets for mothers and infants in the birth center.”

OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Portland

“The Credit Unions for Kids program is supporting the Gary and Christine Rood Family Pavilion – a guest house for families traveling more than 30 miles outside of Portland. This home away from home provides everything a family might need to be comfortable while their loved one is in the hospital – completely free.”

Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah

“This year’s auction fundraising will support Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital in changing the face of pediatric care. While a great portion of the dollars will impact Charity Care and programs like Expressive Therapies, it will also support our recently announced second campus in Lehi, Utah — set to open in 2022. Primary Children’s currently covers over 400,000 square miles in serving children and families. This second campus will be a full, Level 1 trauma pediatric hospital with all service lines and will address a huge need to serve an area that has the fastest growing family population in the U.S.”

 Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle

“CU4Kids funds that come to Seattle Children’s each year are designated for Uncompensated Care. Internationally recognized researchers are working collaboratively across scientific disciplines to examine the coronavirus so we can understand why it affects children differently than other populations. What we learn will help reduce the overall impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Insights will also allow us to prepare for a potential repeat outbreak of COVID-19 or another novel respiratory virus that targets children. There are more than 50 COVID-19 research studies underway, and our researchers are searching for answers that could result in major scientific breakthroughs that save lives and slow the spread of the virus.”

Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, Spokane

“100% of the money raised in the Inland Northwest stays here to fund specialized equipment, supportive programs and provide the best possible care for the patients and families at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Donations are unrestricted funds so we can meet the most critical and urgent needs as they arise.”

Virginia Mason Memorial, Yakima, Washington

“Thank you, credit unions — your support now means everything to us! In this ever changing world, your generosity will allow us to continue to innovate care for our local kids, who can’t wait for the end of the pandemic to receive lifesaving services.” Learn how Virginia Mason Memorial helped the Baker and Aleman families. Spoiler: Have some tissues nearby!

Mark your calendars and register now to join your Northwest credit union family, Nov. 12, for a fun and inspiring evening during Cheers & Chocolates!
