Meet Misty Marquam, Your “Cheers and Chocolates” Auctioneer
Marquam, a powerhouse of energy and enthusiasm, will help Northwest credit unions raise the roof Nov. 12 at the CU4Kids virtual auction.
Lean in. The “Cheers and Chocolates” virtual auction is going to be good!
The Northwest credit union family will come together the evening of Nov. 12, for its annual Credit Unions for Kids event to raise money for the region’s Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. The auction will feature virtual wine and chocolate tastings. There will be opportunities to bid on electric cars for each of the eight hospitals, a luxe getaway to the renown Stephanie Inn on Oregon’s coast, and a VIP Washington wine country tour.
To guide its first-ever virtual auction, the Northwest Credit Union Association wanted a trailblazer. Auctioneer Misty Marquam certainly is one. She is one of the very few women of color in the auction industry. The agency she founded — Marquam Auction Agency — is the nation’s first and only fundraising auction agency comprised of minorities with emphasis on serving the underrepresented. She is a Benefit Auctioneer Specialist, a designation held by just 1% of auctioneers worldwide.
“My why?” she asks. “A deep desire to change the world for the better, every single day.”
Misty understands the world Credit Unions for Kids aims to make better. As a fundraising ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, she knows the difference contributions can make in research for lifesaving care, purchasing equipment, and bringing joy to young patients and their families. And she knows credit unions. Misty spent seven years of her career at First Tech Federal Credit Union, a place and a job, she says, that she just loved.
Misty’s energy is amazing, as you’ll see in a video on her website. Transitioning to this year’s virtual environment hasn’t been difficult, given her skills, experience, and sheer passion to make a difference.
On the stage at “Cheers and Chocolates,” Misty will be joined by the NWCUA’s Troy Stang and Jennifer Wagner, and she’ll welcome Elle Fischer, this year’s Miracle Child.
When Misty, an Oregon native, is not busy exceeding fundraising goals, she tells us she enjoys music, dancing, singing, bonfires, nature, and “general merrymaking.” She is the proud mom of two teenage girls.
“We are honored that Misty will be our auctioneer,” said Holly Miller, NWCUA’s Director of Programming. “She is incredibly accomplished, passionate, mission-driven. We expect Cheers & Chocolates to be a huge success, and a fun evening.”
Registration for “Cheers and Chocolates” is open online.
