Four Oregon Credit Unions Sponsor Annual Duck Race Fundraiser
Due to the pandemic, this year’s Great Drake Park Duck Race will take the form of a raffle drawing, with proceeds benefitting seven local charities in the Bend, Oregon area.
With COVID-19 limiting large gatherings this year, it may have meant there would be no Great Drake Park Duck Race in Bend, Oregon this September. But the show must go on!
Every year, the four Bend Rotary Clubs partner with the “Credit Unions Working Together” coalition, a collaboration between Mid Oregon Credit Union, SELCO Community Credit Union, First Community Credit Union, and OnPoint Community Credit Union, to host the annual duck race, which has raised nearly $2 million for local nonprofits since 1989.
In lieu of dumping thousands of rubber ducks into the Drake Park river this year, the fundraiser will take the shape of a large raffle, held Sept. 13. Those who purchase tickets will have the chance to win a grand prize of $5,000 cash as well as nine other prizes, totaling over $10,000 in value, and weekly $100 giveaways to local restaurants.
“We have seven great local charities that we’re supporting, and this year, they need the money more than ever,” said Kyle Frick, Vice President, Marketing and Community Relations at Mid Oregon.
Proceeds of the raffle will benefit the following local nonprofits:
- Volunteers in Medicine
- Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery
- Boys and Girls Club of Bend
- Central Oregon Veterans Outreach
- J Bar J
- The Gift of Literacy
- Family Access Network
Over the past four years, ticket sales have exceeded $100,000 each year, and Frick says he hopes to see similar numbers this year despite the pivot. “Considering all the challenges we’ve had this year, if we get to even $60,000 or $70,000, I think we can call that a success. But you never know. Maybe we’ll do $120,000!”
