Northwest Credit Unions Recognized for Excellence on Forbes’ 2020 List of America’s Best Credit Unions


Last week, Forbes released its third annual list of America’s best credit unions, with Connections Credit Union in Idaho, SELCO Community Credit Union in Oregon, and Gesa Credit Union in Washington topping the list in the Northwest.

Partnering with market research firm, Statista, Forbes surveyed nearly 25,000 Americans across the country about their present and past banking experiences, asking them to rank their financial institution on six key factors: overall satisfaction, trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, and financial advice.

Members had favorable sentiments for their credit unions, resulting in the following rankings in Forbes.


Top spot: Connections Credit Union, headquartered in Pocatello

“This recognition and support from our members is a testament to how credit unions can evolve with technology, while staying true to the core credit union principals of improving the financial lives of the communities we serve,” said Brian Osberg, President and CEO of Connections. “Empowering individual branches to serve their members in a way that fits their particular community has resulted in a level of trust and loyalty all credit unions strive for.”

Other credit unions in the top five for Idaho included:

  • Idaho Central Credit Union, Chubbuck
  • Westmark Credit Union, Idaho Falls
  • CapEd Credit Union, Meridian
  • Mountain America Credit Union (Based in Sandy, Utah, but has branches in Idaho.)

Top spot: SELCO Community Credit Union, headquartered in Eugene

“To be recognized by Forbes as the top credit union in Oregon is a tremendous honor,” said Bob Newcomb, SELCO’s President and CEO. “More importantly, it is a reflection on every one of SELCO’s nearly 400 employees, who are dedicated to improving our 142,000 members’ social and economic position.”

Other credit unions in the top five for Oregon included:

  • Advantis Credit Union, Portland
  • OnPoint Community Credit Union, Portland
  • First Community Credit Union, Coquille
  • Rivermark Community Credit Union, Beaverton

Top spot: Gesa Credit Union, headquartered in Richland

Other credit unions in the top five for Washington included:

  • iQ Credit Union, Vancouver
  • BECU, Tukwila
  • Kitsap Credit Union, Bremerton
  • HAPO Community Credit Union, Richland

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, based in Anchorage, took the number one spot In Alaska, and Honolulu-based HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union topped the Forbes list for Hawaii.
