Northwest Credit Unions Leverage Social Media to Support Main Street
May 5, 2020
The Small Business Administration postponed National Small Business Week this year due to COVID-19 and has yet to announce new dates. But credit unions don’t need a designated week to ramp up support for their community partners — it’s what they do year-round.
In addition to working around the clock to help small-business owners secure SBA Paycheck Protection Program loans, credit unions are championing local businesses to support them through the pandemic:
Icon Credit Union, Boise
Icon is hosting giveaways on its Facebook page for gift cards to local joints, like Lucky Perk Coffee and Guido’s Original N.Y. Style Pizzeria.
“At Icon, we love to support local, and what better time to do so than right now?” Icon said on Facebook.
Rivermark Community Credit Union, Beaverton, Oregon
Rivermark is also supporting its community partners with weekly gift card giveaways for the entire month of May.
The credit union took to Facebook to announce that the giveaways will begin May 4: “In an effort to help support our local businesses we will be giving away gift cards to some of our favorite eateries.”
ACU, Dupont, Washington
ACU is promoting local businesses, like Liv & Rory Boutique, Hong’s Restaurant, and Primo Grill, on its social media pages.
“As part of a financial cooperative, we all depend on each other. Savers, borrowers, families, businesses, all interlinked. That’s why we are featuring the businesses that are part of the ACU family that can use our support right now,” ACU tweeted.
Solarity Credit Union, Yakima, Washington
Solarity recently launched its statewide “Don’t Roam. Support From Home” campaign, which encourages both consumers and business leaders to promote local businesses virtually in an effort to help stabilize the economy.
Solarity challenged its members to participate in the campaign on Facebook, saying, “We are asking you to support local by ordering from home, getting takeout, buying gift cards or supporting local in other ways from the comfort of home. Are you in?”
