Making a Difference One Meal at a Time

Kitsap Credit Union recently donated $5,000 to the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation to support their annual #Community Harvest Crock Pot Meals Program. #Community Harvest is one of approximately 30 organizations supported by the foundation.

Addressing hunger and food insecurity is a primary focal point of outreach for Kitsap. In the greater peninsula community, 1 in 4 children and 1 in 7 adults struggle with hunger. Kitsap’s support of #Community Harvest provides ingredients and nutritious meals for 2,500 people in need. Each family receives a crock-pot, recipe book, and food supplies to make meals.

Additionally, Kitsap supports the foundation through their Backpacks for Kids program, which sends children home with a backpack of food for the weekend during the normal school year. The Gig Harbor branch serves as a food collection site throughout the year, and donates funds from an annual member promotion. Kitsap staff also volunteer to pack food for families in need.

“I have always had a passion for kids and love to support these types of programs,” said Karen Campbell, Manager of Kitsap’s Uptown Branch in Gig Harbor. “The idea of sending home food that feeds the entire family and sustains children on the weekends is a good thing!”
