Wednesday at GAC: Northwest Advocacy Army Marches Through Congress

Before the sun popped its head out here in the Northwest, our Credit Union Movement colleagues in the advocacy army already had their boots on the ground in D.C., ready for face-to-face meetings in the offices of all the region’s Members of Congress.

For delegates from Washington’s District 10, it was a bittersweet moment as they had their final CUNA GAC meeting with Rep. Denny Heck, a longtime champion of the Movement whose first job was in a credit union.  The Congressman is not running for reelection. He was particularly impressed with NWCUA’s just-released Community Impact Report, which documents Washington credit unions’ impressive financial education work, and how it’s manifesting in high numbers of savings accounts deposits.

In every meeting, advocates weighed in with stories about their members who are building brighter financial futures with their credit union’s help. Check out NWCUA’s busy Twitter feed to see all the news!

Meanwhile back on the Mainstage at GAC, newly elected CUNA Board Chair Troy Stang monitored an interesting panel discussion about the current political climate. The panelists were heavy hitters –Stephanie Cutter, former campaign manager for President Obama, and Nicolle Wallace, former White House Communications Director for President George W. Bush.
