Rep. Denny Heck (D-WA 10) dropped something of a bombshell on the political scene Wednesday, announcing he won’t seek reelection next year. Heck said the impeachment proceedings and investigation into Russian election interference, “rendered my soul weary.”

The Northwest Credit Union Movement is sorry to see Rep. Heck leave Congress but is grateful for his years of support of credit unions.

“As you know, the Congressman has been a vital champion for credit unions and held a unique position as the only member of the Financial Services Committee who is from the Pacific Northwest,” said Samantha Beeler, Vice President of Advocacy for the Northwest Credit Union Association.

Before Rep. Heck began his public service career in the Washington State House of Representatives in 1977 he had a career in the financial services industry. His first job was in a credit union. He never forgot those roots. Heck’s retirement announcement letter embodies his values.

“Though we will definitely feel the loss of his personality and expertise keenly, we stand ready to ensure there is another credit union champion elected in the 10th District,” Beeler said.
