Credit Unions Come Together to Host Successful Second Annual Portland-Metro Credit Union Career Fair
Job seekers interviewed for various positions during the fair, networked, and learned about the Credit Union Difference.
On Sept. 6, eight credit unions teamed up in downtown Portland to show jobseekers of all levels the benefits of a credit union career during the second annual Portland-Metro Credit Union Career Fair.
Last year’s innovative event brought a number of qualified individuals to Northwest credit unions. This year proved no differently, with more than 60 job seekers learning about credit union careers. The career fair was hosted by Unitus Community Credit Union in collaboration with Advantis Credit Union, Clackamas Federal Credit Union, First Tech Federal Credit Union, iQ Credit Union, OnPoint Community Credit Union, Point West Credit Union, Rivermark Community Credit Union, and Trailhead Credit Union.
The event reprised last year’s popular theme: “Take this job and LOVE IT!” And like last year’s career fair, it featured music, catered lunch for all registered attendees, and prize giveaways for candidates who completed their “passport” by visiting each of the participating credit unions.
“Speaking with the credit unions involved, we were thrilled with the quality of candidates we spoke with during the event,” said Gayle Evans, Chief Human Resources Officer of Unitus. “There were many interviews conducted during the event, and off the top of my head, I know of one candidate who was hired on the spot!”
One of the most popular and unique aspects of last year’s event, Evans refers to the designated “quiet areas” set aside so credit unions could conduct interviews with candidates immediately.
The Young Credit Union Professionals of Oregon and SW Washington and BankWork$ were also in attendance. OnPoint Community Credit Union sponsored lunches for registered attendees, while Rivermark Community Credit Union and Golsan Scruggs Insurance and Risk Advisory co-sponsored the live DJ from The Bull.
“In addition to promoting jobs, we are supporting a collective understanding that we all win when we support local communities and give people the chance to make a positive impact,” said Steve Stapp, Unitus President and CEO.
