Young Professionals Gather to Discuss Diversity & Inclusion
Steve Stapp, President and CEO of Unitus, provided keynote address.
The Young Credit Union Professionals of Oregon and SW Washington (YCUP) hosted a panel to discuss Diversity and Inclusion last week. The event drew 38 attendees from different credit unions around the area.
Steve Stapp, President and CEO of Unitus Community Credit Union and Chairman of the Board for World Council of Credit Unions, served as Keynote Speaker. Panelists included Mary Vasquez from Point West Credit Union, Jason Russell from Rivermark Community Credit Union, and Vishall Kaistha of First Tech Federal Credit Union. Unitus Community Credit Union hosted the event and provided refreshments and appetizers.
Panelists discussed ways their credit unions are bringing greater inclusivity to their office culture, staff, and membership base. They highlighted the importance of being open to mistakes and learning opportunities, while fostering an environment of respect for all. They debated placing an ROI metric on inclusivity and agreed on the importance of seeing one another beyond titles.
Young Credit Union Professionals of Oregon & SW Washington was founded by young credit union professionals in 2008 at the Annual Meeting of Credit Union Association of Oregon (now Northwest Credit Union Association) and focusses on recruiting, developing, and retaining young, talented professionals into the credit union industry while promoting and practicing the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”.
