Credit union leaders from all corners of the region, from eastern Idaho, to central Washington, to the Willamette Valley, gathered on July 22 at your Association’s office in SeaTac, Washington, where they participated in a CEO roundtable discussion with Credit Union National Association President and CEO, Jim Nussle, and CUNA Board Chairman, Brett Martinez.
CEOs representing credit unions throughout the Northwest discussed key topics, including advocacy, data breaches, canna banking, the future of the regulatory environment, and other priorities.
Advocacy is CUNA’s number-one focus, Nussle told attendees. Building deep relationships with legislators is critical to furthering credit union priorities, and CUNA works across both aisles to get that done. He recognized Northwest credit union leaders for their strong commitment to those advocacy efforts which has led to significant wins in the Northwest as well as specific relationships at the federal level that have proved crucial to the industry’s success.
Nussle stressed that cooperation among credit unions is critical in a number of areas, whether it be fighting a tax battle or collectively telling the story of the Credit Union Difference to consumers through the Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union initiative.
The CEO gathering was co-hosted by Northwest CUNA representatives Debie Keesee, CUNA Board Member, Teri Robinson, CUNA Small Credit Union Committee Chair, and Troy Stang, CUNA Board Vice Chairman.
