Your Association Expands Small Credit Union Programs with Summer Event

Leaders of small credit unions are pleased with the option to network with their peers, either in person or via video conferencing. Pictured here are Seattle area credit union leaders who joined more than 50 of their Northwest colleagues at an NWCUA Small Credit Union Roundtable in February.

The Northwest Credit Union Association this year has expanded its Small Credit Union Roundtables to include four seasonal events that more regularly connect small credit union leaders with important resources and vital operational information. Small credit union leaders and staff can participate in the next Small Credit Union Roundtable on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to learn the latest news, updates, and requirements for Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL), risk management analysis, and other trends and hot topics.

The August event will offer attendees the option to attend the virtual roundtable with others at any of the NWCUA office locations in Boise, Tigard, or SeaTac, or to call in directly from their desks. The event will run two hours, from 10 a.m. to noon PDT and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT. Registration is now open.

For those attending in-person at an NWCUA office, a networking lunch will be provided.

What’s on the agenda?
An update on CECL
  • Scott Blakeslee with Visible Equity will present on what small credit unions need to know about new requirements for accounting and disclosure  short, direct, and on point to leave participants well prepared for next steps.
Emerging Risks and How to Quantify
  • Risk management can often feel like a secondary priority to the pressing needs of managing for optimum credit union success. In this session, Rebecca Garton, Risk Management Analyst with CUNA Mutual Group, will share ideas on how to analyze emerging risks for everyday operational decisions and why that’s important.
Hot Topics
  • Be in-the-know on emerging trends, tips, and important topics currently impacting credit unions and what needs to happen to prepare for change.

“These small credit union roundtables are intended to be highly accessible and inclusive  we want all credit unions to participate regardless of their location or ability to travel, so we’ve launched a video conferencing component to better serve all,” said Carmen Vigil, CUDE and Director of Cooperative Momentum for NWCUA.

“We want to ensure that our topics and speakers are empowering and thought-provoking while delivering highly relevant information and resources, and we cannot thank our presenters enough for their time and support of this community.”

Next Small Credit Union Roundtable at MAXX 2019 at the Spokane Convention Center, Oct. 15-17

The largest roundtable event of the year will take place at the annual MAXX Convention in Spokane Oct. 15-17. Scott Butterfield of Your Credit Union Partner will lead a discussion on strategic considerations for credit unions and facilitate an interactive discussion with participants. In addition, there is an excellent opportunity to participate in an exclusive Small Credit Union networking event on Oct. 14, hosted by Your Credit Union Partner. Registration is open now for the annual MAXX Convention.
