Remembering Credit Union Trailblazer Linda Wheeler
July 22, 2019
Linda Wheeler, a former Oregon credit union leader, passed away unexpectedly earlier this month. Wheeler was 68. She was an important figure in the Northwest Credit Union Movement, working in the industry for many years and eventually becoming the CEO of the former Hyster Federal Credit Union. She also served on the Oregon Corporate Credit Union Board of Directors.
Wheeler and her husband, Tim, retired to Arizona ten years ago, but she remained in touch with her credit union family back in Oregon.
“Linda will always be remembered for her fierce dedication to credit unions and to their members,” said Pamela Leavitt, Northwest Credit Union Association Policy Advisor, Oregon State Advocacy and Grassroots. “She is going to be sorely missed by all of us.”
A celebration of Wheeler’s life will be held Aug. 25 in Florence, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, family is asking that donations be made in her memory to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, using this link: https://www.ohsu.edu/doernbecher-foundation.
