Credit Unions Running ATMs on Windows 7 Must Switch to Version 10

Similar to the sunsetting of Windows XP, Microsoft’s Windows 7 support will cease on Jan. 14, 2020.  This means there will be no more security updates, application patches, or technical support.

Credit unions that are currently using the Windows 7 operating system for their ATMs could run significant risks if they have not converted over to Windows 10 before the support ceases. The risks of not converting to Windows 10 include potential cybersecurity risks, malware, or jackpotting. A study from the Windows XP ATM issue had shown that most ATMs in India were easy targets for hackers and malware attacks.

Credit unions that have not converted their ATMs from Windows 7 to Windows 10 are strongly encouraged to reach out to your vendor about the upgrade. With the deadline fast approaching, vendors may not have enough time to convert your ATM if you wait until the last minute.
