Credit Unions for Kids Auction at MAXX 2019 Aims to Break Last Year’s Fundraising Record

To make this year’s auction a huge success, donated items are needed; all proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Glam up and don your best masquerade mask for the Credit Unions for Kids Auction on Oct. 16. Let’s raise some serious money!

Credit union professionals will come together in October for three days at this year’s MAXX Convention in Spokane, where they’ll experience professional development, networking, and opportunities to learn about the latest in technology, trends, and services.

During the annual convention, the Northwest Credit Union Association will host the 33rd annual Credit Union for Kids Auction on Oct. 16. The auction supports the important work of the Children’s Miracle Network, which helps provide lifesaving healthcare to children. The auction is a highly anticipated convention event, and this year will be no exception as your Association aims to exceed last year’s fundraising proceeds of $631,462.

The Miracle Child guest on stage this year will be 5-year-old Elliott Naftzger. She’ll join her family at the auction, where attendees will get to hear her inspiring story about the care she received at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. Elliott was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and received lifesaving care at the hospital.

This year’s auction is themed the Masquerade Ball. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their masquerade finest—masks and all—and enjoy a night of bidding as they reach for a fundraising goal of $750,000. In order to hit that goal, event organizers need to ensure that they’re auctioning off hot-ticket items that will inspire some friendly competition.

At last year’s event, there were 100 silent auction items and 11 live auction items. Some of the most popular silent auction items were baskets filled with sports, holiday or seasonally themed goodies, kitchen items, and baskets brimming with fun things for children. Electronics and home décor items were also highly sought after. Live items usually include destination travel getaways, dinner parties, and adventure packages.

“We are always so grateful for the support that our Northwest credit unions provide with their auction donations,” said Holly Miller, Director of Programming, NWCUA. “Their generous donations are so impressive and truly help us drive our annual success. It’s a partnership that we do not take for granted.”

All the proceeds from the auction, as well as sponsorship proceeds, go to eight Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and one in Utah. There are still sponsorship spots also available, including the “Bal Masque” sponsorship, which features a credit union’s name on a masquerade decal. Those decals adorn the convention walls and show the credit union’s support. 

The 2019 Credit Union Auction Committee is actively seeking items for the night’s event. Those who wish to donate an auction item have until Friday, Sept. 6. Silent auction items are still needed and being accepted as well.

Since its founding in the Northwest in 1986, and its adoption as credit unions’ national “charity of choice” in 1996, Credit Unions for Kids has raised over $185 million for 170 CMN hospitals across the nation. Money raised in any region stays with the local hospital, and money raised at the Masquerade Ball Auction can be earmarked to benefit the CMN hospital of the donors’ or winning bidders’ choice.
