SELCO Awards College Scholarships to Oregon Students
June 11, 2019
SELCO Community Credit Union has stood behind its commitment to support education again this year by awarding $50,000 in college scholarships to graduating seniors throughout the state of Oregon. Each recipient received $2,500—an increase from last year’s award of $1,500—to help with college expenses.
The scholarship winners were chosen based on criteria that included both academic performance and community involvement. To qualify, applicants had to graduate from a four-year accredited high school in Oregon, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, and plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Additionally, each applicant as asked to write an essay that answered the question: “What advice would you give your future self on your college graduation day?”
According to SELCO Vice President of Marketing Laura Illig, the scholarship committee was impressed with the quality of the applications they received.
“These recipients are an incredibly accomplished group of students. The scholarships are meant to make it easier for students to pursue the next step of their education, and we were proud to be able to increase the value of each scholarship this year. As has been the case since its founding more than 80 years ago, SELCO will continue to make education a key tenet of its mission to help members and their families reach their goals,” said Illig.
