Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union Sets up Accounts to Aid Families of Crane Collapse Victims
An outpouring of support has been seen from contributors across the nation.
A construction crane collapsed in downtown Seattle on Saturday, April 27, taking the lives of four people, including two who were ironworkers. Three others also were injured in the collapse. When Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union heard about it, the credit union jumped into action to help the families of those who lost their lives.
By Sunday, the Portland-based credit union had accounts set up and was ready to take donations for the victims’ families. Since then, the contributions have pouring in from across the country and haven’t stopped.
“It has been heartwarming to see the overwhelming love and support for Travis Corbet and Andrew Yoder, showing the special bond our labor unions and contractors have here and from locations across the country,” said Ironworkers USA CEO, Teri Robinson.
The credit union has been using social media, its website, and word-of-mouth to gather donations. To date, donations have brought in a total of $189,060.
Many of the donors wrote personal messages that will be shared with each of the fallen ironworkers’ families.
“It’s been amazing to read the heartfelt comments from those who’ve opened their hearts to these families,” said Robinson. “Just like the credit union’s philosophy of ‘People Helping People,’ we’ve really seen the same bond throughout the Ironworker Brotherhood.”
Here are a few comments made by donors:
“Please accept my prayers and condolences to you and your families as Travis and Andrew will not be forgotten.”
“Our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. During this time of grief, please know that we are remembering and honoring them, their service, dedication, and impact that they made in our city.”
“Standing with you and your families in this very sorrowful time.”
