Credit Unions Invited to Help Plan Next Portland-Metro Career Fair

Last fall, several credit unions got together to collaborate on finding talent in one place – at the first Portland-Metro Credit Union Cooperative Career Fair, held in downtown Portland.
The event, organized by Unitus Community Credit Union, was an outstanding success, with nine credit unions and more than 125 job seekers attending. Because so many credit unions were present at the fair, it provided a valuable, under-one-roof experience for those looking to enter into a credit union profession. Having the fair in downtown Portland gave credit unions access to a large talent pool.
This year, the job fair, scheduled for Sept. 6, aims to be an even bigger success. To make that happen, credit unions are asked to once again collaborate. A meeting on May 9 will kick off the planning, and credit unions from across the region are encouraged to attend.
“Credit unions offer every financial service big banks offer and keep our money flowing through our local community, not to outside shareholders,” Gayle Evans, Chief Human Resources Officer at Unitus Community Credit Union said. “This event is for young professionals in financial services or those interested in a career in financial services who want to do well by doing good.”
Last year’s career fair was well attended and job candidates reported being impressed by the diversity of opportunities. The fair buzzed with activity, as applicants learned about open positions and shared resumes. There were quiet sitting areas available for applicants to interview on site – a rare opportunity at a career fair.
Credit unions interested in participating this year are encouraged to attend the planning meeting May 9 at 3 p.m. in the Community Room on the 4th floor of Unitus Plaza, 1300 SW Sixth Ave. in
downtown Portland. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. On-site parking is available at the plaza, off of SW Fifth Avenue and SW Jefferson Street.
Those interested in participating should RSVP for the May 9 planning meeting with Rachel Perry at Unitus.
This year’s job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 6 at the plaza. Last year, Advantis, Clackamas, First Tech Federal, iQ, Point West, Rivermark Community, SELCO Community, and Trailhead credit unions participated.
