Credit Unions Rally to Support Funding for the CDFI Fund

Credit Union advocates are unifying our voices to share the importance of the Community Development Financial Institution Fund, and the great work it supports in our region. We are now asking the Senators in the Northwest to sign-on to a Dear Colleague Letter supporting the funding of this work through Congressional Appropriations. We are asking credit union advocates to reach out to their members of Congress and share the importance of this fund.

As a reminder, the President’s budget has proposed cuts or zeroed out the fund every year over the past 3 years.  As a reminder the President’s budge is simply a proposal to Congress and then the Appropriators get to work on the actual budget. The following members of the Northwest Congressional delegation serve on the Appropriations Committee and will play an important role in this conversation:

House Appropriations

  1. Mike Simpson (R – ID 2)
  2. Jaime Herrera-Beutler (R – WA 3) – serves on the FSGG Subcommittee
  3. Derek Kilmer (D – WA 6)
  4. Dan Newhouse (R – WA 4)

Senate Appropriations

  1. Parry Murray (D – WA)
  2. Jeff Merkley (D- OR) – signed a letter in support

The following House Members form our delegation have also signed on a letter in support of the CDFI’s funding: Kim Schrier (D – WA 8), Pramila Jayapal (D – WA 7), Peter DeFazio (D – OR 4), Denny Heck (D – WA 10), and Suzanne Bonamici (D – OR 1).

We have seen success with this ask over the last two years, and we are working with system partners to continue supporting this important work. However, this year we are facing unique challenges, and need you to engage. You can share your support with your member of Congress by simply following this link
