NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger Addresses Northwest Credit Union Association Committee

On Thursday March 28, NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger and NCUA Associate Regional Director Mike Dyer addressed the Northwest Credit Union Associations Regulatory Advisory Subcommittee. Board Member Metsger provided the committee with an update on rules and regulations that the board may pursue, and insight on the board’s decision to lower the normal operating level–which once again results in an equity distribution–and shared that both new board members Rodney Hood and Todd Harper are expected to be sworn in on Monday, April 8.

Associate Regional Director Mike Dyer shared with the committee examination trends, and areas of focus for the region. Dyer also provided additional details on the AIRES to the Modern Examination and Risk Identification Tool (MERIT) transition, an update on the alternating exam pilot program, and an update on the structure of the Western Region which became effective January 1, 2019.

Both Metsger and Dyer, encouraged credit unions of all sizes to attend the CECL webinar on April 11 at 2 pm EST

Following the discussion with the NCUA, the committee had a robust discussion on how the examination process could be improved. The Subcommittee identified key priorities including logistics training for Examiners in Charge, and eliminating overlap between the ACET and IS&T questionnaires.
