NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang Elected CUNA Board of Directors Vice Chair
Stang will also serve as Chairman of CUNA’s Advocacy Committee.
Troy Stang, President and CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association, was elected Vice Chair of the Credit Union National Association’s Board of Directors during CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., last week. Stang has served on CUNA’s Board of Directors since 2013, most recently as Secretary and prior to that as Treasurer.
“Members of CUNA’s Board have the unique opportunity to participate in the Credit Union Movement on a national level. To be elected as Vice Chair and serve alongside other credit union professionals is a high honor,” Stang said. “Together, along with America’s credit unions and their leaders, we continue to advocate on behalf of credit unions nationwide, focusing on removing barriers so they may better serve their members, further grow membership, and bolster awareness among consumers, reinforcing that credit unions are their best financial partner.”
As Vice Chair, Stang’s role includes serving as Chairman of CUNA’s Advocacy Committee. As past Treasurer, Stang served as a Member of that committee.
“To continue advancing credit unions’ policy agenda and protect the cooperative choice, it is vital we advocate the Credit Union Difference on all levels – locally and nationally,” Stang said. “Here in the Northwest, credit unions are leading the charge in advocacy, with S. 2155 a shining example of how we work together.”
S. 2155, the Growth, Regulatory, Relief, and Consumer Protection Act, was introduced by Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and signed into law in May of last year. Credit union professionals from Idaho, Oregon, andw Washington played an integral role in advocating for its passage, and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) initiated a key provision of the landmark legislation – the “Credit Union Residential Loan Parity Act.”
In addition, Stang will serve as Vice Chair of the National Action and Response Program Administrative Council/National Advocacy Fund Steering Committee, Vice Chair of CUNA’s Executive Committee, and as a CULAC Trustee.
Brett Martinez, President and CEO of Redwood Credit Union, was elected as CUNA Board Chair. Others elected to Executive Committee positions include Secretary Brad Green, President and CEO of Listerhill Credit Union, Treasurer Tony Budet, President and CEO of University Federal Credit Union, and At-Large Member Lisa Ginter, CEO of CommunityAmerica Credit Union.
Executive Committee Members help guide CUNA throughout the year with support from Directors who represent the Credit Union Movement’s diversity. The newly elected members will serve the 2019-2020 term.
Stang and other CUNA Board members were elected last month, including Debie Keesee, President and CEO of Spokane Media Federal Credit Union.
