Blaine Bartholomew, AVP of Member Experience with Unitus Community Credit Union, explains his proposed member rewards program in a video.

A successful member rewards program is an excellent opportunity for credit unions to increase member loyalty and add even more value to their membership experience.

It’s a winning concept for Blaine Bartholomew, AVP of Member Experience for Unitus Community Credit Union in Portland, Ore. He’s using it as the focus of a project he entered for the Credit Union Executives Society’s Next Top Credit Union Exec competition.

He’s one of five finalists and the only Northwest executive running in the finals for the title, which includes a $20,000 education package at CUES’ CEO Institute, executive coaching sessions, and project publicity in an industry blog.

As a recent graduate of Northwest Credit Union Association’s Emerging Leaders Program, Bartholomew has honed his leadership skills, received executive training, and performed specialized project work – tools that will support him throughout the competition.

“We’re pleased to see one of our Emerging Leader graduates take the next step on their professional journey,” NWCUA Director of Cooperative Momentum, Carmen Vigil, said. “We’re fortunate to have young professionals like Blaine contributing to the future of the Credit Union Movement in the Northwest.”

Strategic projects developed by the 2018 class of Emerging Leaders will be presented at MAXX 2018. The 2018 Emerging Leaders Program Showcase is scheduled in the educational breakout session on Oct. 17 from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.

Bartholomew’s project centers on the creation of a member rewards program for Unitus CU.

“It’s an account that would make us front and center on the benefits of ownership,” Bartholomew said.

The finalists will gather Nov. 5-7 at the CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network in Nashville, Tenn. On Nov. 6, they will present their project in front of the judging panel. The entrant with the highest combined score from the judging panel, audience, online, and social interactions will be declared the 2018 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec.
