MAXX 2018 Celebrates the Worldwide Impact of Credit Unions for International Credit Union Day on Oct. 18

Jill Tracie Nichols, founder and CEO of the Tracie Group, will discuss the importance of gender balance among leadership at MAXX 2018 during the Global Women’s Leadership Network session on Oct. 18.

On International Credit Union Day, we celebrate our strong network of worldwide financial cooperatives and learn how credit unions across the globe are making impacts in their local communities and beyond.

This year, ICU Day falls on Oct. 18, the last day of Northwest Credit Union Association’s annual convention in Tacoma, Wash. Your Association plans to observe this day with two important breakout sessions that will give MAXX attendees perspective on the rising international trends shaping the landscape of future business. The sessions will focus on gender balance among leadership positions and diversity and inclusion.

The nation’s first Credit Union Day was celebrated on Jan. 17, 1927, to acknowledge credit unions’ important role in creating opportunity and acknowledging its early pioneers. In 1948, the Credit Union National Association set aside the third Thursday of every October as the official National Credit Union Day. We celebrate it with 68,000 credit unions in 109 countries that are improving the lives of more than 235 million members.

Throughout the Northwest, credit unions and micro-communities hold events and programming on ICU Day. Creating an understanding of the international impact of the Credit Union Movement and our shared purpose helps us build a greater sense of community.

“International Credit Union Day is such a powerful opportunity for all credit unions to reflect on their individual purpose and history while also celebrating the collective impact of credit unions worldwide,” Carmen Vigil, NWCUA Director, Cooperative Momentum, said. “We are excited to have so many Northwest credit unions together in one place this year to acknowledge this important day.”

During the MAXX 2018 convention at the Global Women’s Leadership Network session, Jill Tracie Nichols, founder and CEO of the Tracie Group, will speak on the importance of gender balance among leadership positions and how the GWLN is driving impact in the Northwest. Her talk is on Oct. 18 from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.

Also, on Oct. 18 from 2 to 3 p.m., The Power of Diversity & Inclusion session will leave MAXX attendees with a clearer understanding of how their credit unions may take steps toward building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive representation of current and future members. Among the three speakers featured will be Victor Miguel Corro, Client Relations Director for Coopera.

“When you implement a comprehensive outreach plan for your Hispanic members, your credit union grows assets and membership and connects with one of the youngest, most-underserved, and fastest growing populations in the United States,” Corro said. “As an industry we need a plan for the largest minority in the country.”
