Wauna Credit Union has a lot to Celebrate

Wauna Credit Union upgrades online and mobile banking platforms

Wauna Credit Union (WCU) has introduced “U-Banking,” a new digital banking platform that offers dozens of features designed to ease online and mobile banking for its members. The new solution addresses the member requests for a smoother experience, from an easier login process and money management tools to upgraded security and live online assistance.

WCU President and CEO Robert Blumberg explained that the upgrade was based on member feedback.

“Our members come first in every decision we make. So, we are very serious about not just listening to our members but also hearing them, and this time, it was clear that a better online banking experience was needed. We did our due diligence in choosing this product and we are confident that not only will U-Banking be easier for our members to use but will also be the answer to those concerns we have been hearing,” said Blumberg.

WCU Employee Celebrates Anniversary

For more than 30 years WCU Chief Marketing Officer Debi Smiley has been actively involved in the credit union movement — spending all of those 30 years at WCU, where she worked to improve products and services for members and employees alike. Smiley has served in nearly every capacity at the credit union, having worked her way through the ranks to Chief Operations Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and even serving for a period as Interim CEO.

“I have truly enjoyed being part of the Wauna team both as an employee and a member,” she said. “It has been an extremely rewarding experience and I appreciate the opportunity to give back to the communities that have given so much to me. I look forward to many more years,” said Smiley.

Noting her invaluable contributions to the growth of WCU over the past three decades, Blumberg said, “When I joined WCU, the credit union was at $104 million in assets and had 14,000 members, and that was only 10 years ago. Today, WCU has $240 million in assets and more than 25,000 members and is still growing, and it is because of employees like Debi.”

WCU announces 2018 scholarship winners

WCU awarded $11,500 in scholarships to its student members in Columbia and Clatsop counties in June. Selected on a variety of factors that included GPA, community involvement, and financial need, 18 students were awarded scholarships that ranged from $500 to $1,500, each.

“This was not an easy decision as we had a huge amount of wonderful applicants this year,” said Blumberg. “We take that to heart because we believe not just in our communities and our schools but in our future, and who better to make that future brighter than our children?”

This year marks more than $300,000 in scholarships that WCU has awarded since the program’s beginning.
