Sound Credit Union Announces New Officers and a Brand Update

This month, Sound Credit Union has named two new executive officers: Wendy Cleveland was named Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, and Charlene Henson takes on the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer.

Henson brings more than 23 years of credit union experience to Sound, which includes service in retail operations, mortgage lending, account resolutions and operations. Most recently, she served as Sound’s Vice President of South Region branches.

Sound Credit Union President and CEO Don Clark acknowledged Henson’s value, saying, “We are pleased to have Charlene join our executive team as our Chief Retail Officer. Her proven leadership and experience will continue to be an asset to Sound.”

The credit union also named Wendy Cleveland its new Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. Cleveland has more than 23 years of credit union experience, serving in a range of leadership roles that include branch management, digital channels, marketing, public relations, business development, as well as lending and payments. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President for AltaOne Federal Credit Union, where she improved systems that resulted in profitability gains.

“We are excited to have Wendy join our team at Sound,” said Clark. “Throughout her career she has served in various leadership roles and we believe her past experience will prove to be invaluable to our membership, employees, and community. Wendy is a fantastic addition to our executive team as the Chief Operations Officer.”

Additionally, motivated by the desire for Sound’s members and employees to connect with its mission, the credit union has updated its brand with a new logo and purpose statement.

Sound’s new logo symbolizes togetherness, and reflects the indigenous colors of the Pacific Northwest. The credit union also updated its purpose statement, “Power in We—standing with you through all waves of life,” which aims to provide members with a greater awareness of the support and intentionality Sound offers, while giving employees a clear roadmap for how to live the values of the organization.

Currently, most of Sound’s digital platforms and materials include the new logo, which symbolizes “togetherness,” reflects the colors of the Pacific Northwest, and is similar to a school of fish — each unique in its own size and color. Over the next few months, all Sound Credit Union locations will reflect its new brand identity.

“At Sound, we believe we all move forward when we commit to creating an inclusive environment that’s welcoming to all,” said Clark. “For more than 78 years, Sound Credit Union has offered the Pacific Northwest reliable and genuine financial services and, in that time, we have learned that our community is stronger when we focus on working together.”
