Young Professionals 2018 Cohort to be Announced Next Week

YP Leads attend MAXX 2017.

Last year during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s annual MAXX convention, the Northwest Young Professionals Network was launched with its first 18 members.

Your Association joined with regional YP groups to create this new micro-community, which gives talented young credit union professionals the chance to grow their careers and become an integral part of the Credit Union Movement.

Through a highly competitive application process, the YP Leads were chosen – six from each state – to build this new micro-community and receive a full ride to MAXX 2017.

Now, a new cohort of YP Leads is about to be chosen, and once again, they’ll get to attend MAXX, where they’ll receive professional development, network, and directly contribute to the convention. They will be announced Aug. 1.

There were over 44 applicants for just 18 spots, and the Judging Committee, made up of regional YP group leaders, has been hard at work over the past few weeks reviewing submissions. The committee members only review submissions from opposite states – such as Washington judging Idaho and Oregon only – to ensure impartiality.

The new YP Leads will have the opportunity to get to know each other before MAXX through conference calls and other established communications channels.

“Throughout MAXX, attendees will notice YP Leads’ influence on various activities, as the Leads will be busy not only attending the conference and growing their network, but also contributing to the convention with behind-the-scenes activities,” said Carmen Vigil, NWCUA Director of Cooperative Momentum. “Some of these activities will include raising money for the Credit Union (CULAC) – and learning about its importance in the process – helping with the Northwest Credit Union Foundation Breakfast, and assisting in logistics for the Credit Union four Kids Auction.”

YP Leads will work with the YP Champions, leaders of regional YP groups representing the Inland Northwest, Greater Seattle Area, Portland and Southwest Washington, and Idaho, on reflective activities throughout the week of the convention, discussing ways to incorporate the learning in their everyday work upon returning to their credit unions.

After MAXX, the new YP Leads will join the 2017 cohort as ambassadors for the Credit Union Movement by participating in their local chapter, YP group, or other micro-community.

The YP Leads program focuses on building community and deeper connections to credit unions. Through this network, the voices and perspectives of young professionals have never been louder.

Editor’s Note: Your Association will post a list of the new YP Leads next week, after the Aug. 1 announcement. Look for a future story about who the YP Leads are in the coming days.
