Credit Unions Prepare Fundraising Plans for CULAC Month in July
Northwest credit unions need more participation to meet end-of-year fundraising goals.
July is just around the corner, and that means credit unions across the country are about to put their Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) fundraising efforts into overdrive for CULAC Month.
Raising funds for CULAC is essential, as the Credit Union Movement thrives when legislators understand the credit union difference. With constant threats to credit unions’ tax-exempt status and ever increasing regulatory burdens, it’s critical that we elect U.S. Senators and Representatives who support credit unions’ not-for-profit, cooperative, members-first mission.
Here in the northwest, fundraising is off to a good start, but increased participation is necessary to reach state goals by the end of 2018.
Idaho is leading the three states at about 34 percent of its annual goal, while Oregon is currently at about 31 percent and Washington is at about 24 percent.
“Many credit unions are really thinking outside of the box to come up with fun initiatives to raise funds for CULAC, such as Shuffling for CULAC,” said Gretchan Blum, Grassroots Advocacy Manager at the Northwest Credit Union Association. “We encourage credit unions to share what activities they are doing for CULAC.”
CULAC, the sixth-largest trade association Political Action Committee (PAC), raises money for federal candidates’ campaigns. It can accept contributions only from individuals, and credit unions facilitate those contributions through payroll deductions or fundraising events. July is an important awareness month and helps build fundraising momentum. CULAC is the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) political action committee.
CULAC supports Republicans and Democrats, with contributions equally split 50/50 between each party, making it one of the most bipartisan PACs in the nation.
